Specialty Processing Applications

TrellisWare has developed a toolset of specialty processing techniques that enable better characterization of the RF environment without requiring a priori knowledge of the physical environment or competing transmitting signals. This type of processing is typically referred to as situational awareness which includes capabilities such as cognitive radio, blind acquisition, blind classification, direction finding and location estimation.

TrellisWare’s situational awareness solutions work where traditional methods fail – in bad multipath and dynamics, with significant interference, low SNR, short record lengths and without specific information on timing or geometry. Leveraging our joint maximum likelihood and adaptive iterative detection (AID) techniques, we are then able to derive the situational awareness information more quickly, at lower SNRs and with greater environmental disturbances (multipath, dynamics, interference) than conventional techniques can handle.

Situational Awareness Specialty Processing can be used to enable a wide range of applications, such as:

  • Taking advantage of spectrum in licensed bands when not in use
  • Minimizing the impact of interference
  • Determining the location/direction of a signal relative to the receiver
  • Mapping the location of signals in the immediate surroundings for situational awareness
  • Tracking the location of signals in the immediate surroundings for navigation applications
  • Better optimizing a receiver’s performance based on other signals with which it must compete.

In addition to using these algorithms in our own products (e.g. GSM SAIC), we offer customized solutions for customer systems and applications. These applications are typically implemented by TrellisWare as FPGA cores and/or software and can be integrated completely into customer receiver solutions.
