Technical Field Sales Associates, FEC & High Speed Communications BA

Initially, this position will have two main functions:

  • Following up with existing sales leads to drive them to closure
  • Providing the appropriate level of technical support both before and after sales

Over time, sales lead generation and qualification will be part of this role.

The ideal candidate has very strong interpersonal skills and feels comfortable making cold-calls and responding the customer requests. Being able to work with customers from different industries and various levels of technical capability and understanding are key to success in this role.

2-5 years of experience in a development or applications engineering role is expected. Sales experience is preferred but may be waived depending on the individual. This role will be ideal for a systems communications engineer whose career goals are focused on a sales role. At a minimum, an undergraduate class in communications theory will be very useful. The candidate will report to the Director of the Business Area (BA), and will have constant interaction with key technical personnel within the BA. Being able to understand customer requirements, translating them into an action item list for the BA, personally fulfilling most of these action items and bringing the other ones to the attention of the appropriate persons within the BA will be among the key success factors for this role.

Significant travel is expected within the continental US. Proficiency with Office tools, C/C++ libraries and DLLs will be very helpful. Experience working both government and commercial programs with a good understanding of respective contractual and customer requirements preferred.

DoD Waveform Business Area Manager

TrellisWare Technologies, Inc. is searching for a self-motivated individual to act in a high level position leading the company’s waveform business area serving the DoD telecommunications industry, in particular, addressing software defined radio markets.

TrellisWare currently offers several key waveform solutions to the DoD telecom industry, and is in the process of expanding this portfolio. The Business Area Manager will lead TrellisWare’s waveform product area through the pursuit of product development subcontracts, licensing, and/or technical services contracts to create, modify and port waveform processing designs for Software Defined Radio (SDR) applications. The Business Area Manager, will grow the sales, oversee contract execution and provide primary customer interface for these opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Help establish and lead a business based on customer solutions, customer support and software/firmware modifications for TrellisWare waveform products.
  • Manage profit and loss, develop and implement strategy in support of overall company objectives by securing sales and expanding contracts for the waveform business area.
  • Provide strategic guidance to invent, innovate, discover new technologies, tools, architectures and/or applications to extend and expand the waveform business area. Author, lead and/or participate in the preparation, submission and negotiation of proposals and business development thereto.
  • Develop, monitor and oversee execution of customer contracts.
  • Support other TrellisWare business areas and products requiring waveform solutions.
  • Spearhead development of targeted white papers, conference presentations and related marketing for the business area.
  • Maintain, build and grow relationships between the company and the customer community. The purpose of these relationships is to better execute the existing business and to expand or add new contract relationships, so as to increase sales.

Requirements:

  • A technical B.S. degree or higher required.
  • 10+ years experience with DoD programs and customers in SDR software/firmware development and integration.
  • At least 5 years as lead engineer or project engineer on SDR-related technology development such as PHY software/firmware integration, FPGA/DSP PHY implementation, or waveform design programs required.
  • Depth of familiarity and contacts in the DoD radio industry including Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers and government customers.
  • Frequent customer interaction, including as principle briefer in customer reviews.
  • Frequent participation in proposal activities including expertise as the proposal lead.
  • Proven business leadership with P&L experience is highly desirable.
  • Willing and able to travel domestically and/or internationally as required to meet business or customer objectives.

Production Manager

TrellisWare Technologies, Inc. is searching for a high energy individual who enjoys working in a small business environment in the high tech industry. The Production Manager will play a significant role, leading the production initiatives for TrellisWare Technologies, Inc.’s wireless communication products.

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, this individual will provide leadership, development and review of company production strategies and execution. Establishing the company’s supplier base, maturing quality/continual improvement programs, and implementing product lifecycle support strategies are key priorities for this position. Successful candidate must be self directed with the ability to handle and complete multiple tasks of varying complexity with a minimum of supervision in a timely manner. Efficient interaction with senior management, engineering and other personnel is a critical element of the job. Performance of duties will have a direct impact on profitability for the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and manage production processes and practices.
  • Lead the evaluation, selection, management and on-going review of external vendors and contract manufacturers.
  • Track and maintain production quality against quality standards.
  • Develop and direct strategies for continual product improvement through improved product design and process enhancements.
  • Develop and maintain production and related technical documentation.
  • Work closely with senior management to plan strategy related to manufacturing capabilities, resources and development.
  • Oversee Production Cost Center.
  • Work closely with Engineering in bringing products to production.
  • Assist across the corporation in proposal generation, production cost and schedule assessment and product roadmap development.

Requirements:

  • B.S. in Engineering, or a related field, along with a combination of experience, knowledge and demonstrated ability equal to a minimum of 10 years in a fast paced production environment for telecom or electronics manufacturing.
  • Computer proficiency with demonstrated experience working with a design team, managing design transfer to production, and applying ISO standards.
  • Proven skills in establishing and managing outsourced manufacturing and vendor relationships.
  • Experience with both DoD and commercial product manufacturing.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to work both independently as well as part of a team.
  • Previous experience with implementation and management of ERP systems.
  • Excellent critical thinking and communication skills.
  • Experience in the commercial electronics industry is also strongly desired.

Software Engineer, Real-time Embedded (Level 1)

Help to develop real-time, embedded software for a wireless ad-hoc multi-hop mesh network in a small, highly dynamic company. Work directly with other engineers learning the issues of real-time systems and implementing, debugging and testing those systems. This position provides the opportunity to learn from experts in the field and make immediate contributions to a new, revolutionary product line.

Responsibilities will include documentation, implementation, debugging and testing of an embedded, real-time system implementing any and all parts of a communications system.

Strong interest in working in a laboratory setting is essential. Ability to interact with other functional groups including systems, hardware and application software is essential. A desire to learn and ability to operate within the software development process is essential. General knowledge of test equipment (logic analyzer, oscilloscope, test control software) is a plus.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of communications systems, signal processing and networking concepts.
  • Must be fluent in the C, C++ programming languages.
  • Familiarity with TI DSP devices (e.g., OMAP, TMS320, C50/C52/C55) and usage of Code Composer a definite plus.

Software Engineer, Real-time Embedded (Level 2)

Join a small, dynamic team in the design and implementation of real-time, embedded software for a wireless ad-hoc multi-hop mesh network. This is a currently evolving product with significant opportunity for new ideas.

Initially, this position will involve implementing extensions, debugging, documenting and testing an existing real-time system. Beyond this, growth potential exists to take on a leadership role in the design and specification of real-time, embedded software for advanced wireless communications systems.

Knowledge and interest in test equipment and lab work is essential for this position. A large percentage of time will be in a lab setting working on real hardware. Good knowledge and interest in software tools (compilers, linkers and debuggers, revision control, etc.) is essential. Knowledge of the software process is a plus.

Knowledge of hardware platforms, specifically the Texas Instruments family of digital signal processors (OMAP, TMS320C6x) is required. Expert knowledge and working experience with debugging environments and tools is necessary.

Skills:

  • Real time Layer 2/3 protocol software development experience in highly constrained microprocessor target is strongly preferred (e.g., cellular, WLAN, WiMAX, TCP/IP networks).
  • Proven ability to deliver high volume embedded software is preferred (e.g., cellular, set top boxes, laptops, consumer, multimedia).
  • Proven ability to deliver complex communication systems with multi-tasking embedded operating systems is preferred (e.g., RTOS, VRTX, RTXC, pSOS).

Software Engineer, Applications

Develop applications software that interface embedded software to desktop application systems for real-time network visualization of mobile ad hoc networks. This may include PC applications utilizing .NET, Google Earth interfaces, Google Android applications, test applications, etc. Growth opportunities for motivated and creative individuals in limited-facility interface design, distributed network applications, network analysis and simulation tools. This is a broad position requiring an open mind and good software design and implementation skills.

This position is responsible for the design and implementation of a wide range of application types. A broad knowledge of software engineering and computer science is essential.

Opportunities exist for breaking new ground in simplifying user interfaces for use in challenging scenarios (military, public safety, etc.). Growth opportunities exist for application design and specification.

Software Engineer, Embedded Linux

Join a small, dynamic team in the design and implementation of Embedded Linux based handheld system. This is a currently evolving product with significant opportunity for new ideas.

Experience with Embedded Linux is essential for this role. This position will involve kernel maintenance, device driver and kernel module development, and application development. Integration with Google Android is a possibility. Knowledge of the display infrastructure, multimedia infrastructure is a plus.

Knowledge of hardware platforms, specifically the Texas Instrument OMAP or ARM architecture is required. Knowledge of hardware architecture and the ability to design, implement and debug device drivers for varied peripherals is required.

  • Process all aspects of accounts payable, matching invoices to orders, updating accounting database, printing and mailing checks, filing completed orders.

Communication Systems Engineer

Requires understanding and creation of high-level algorithms and signaling techniques, assessment of these techniques for practical implementation, C/C++ (simulation), and systems engineering support for design, integration, and test.

The ideal candidate has a detailed expertise in digital communication theory, including coding and modulation, information theory, turbo-codes, detection and estimation.

Experience with waveform-level simulation of communications systems using C/C++ is required. Ability to analyze design trade-offs is required. Familiarity with maximum likelihood techniques, graphical modeling, iterative detection (message-passing) algorithms and their applications is highly desirable.

Excellent communication skills, an interest in hands-on implementation and testing, and a desire to interact closely with Hardware and Software Engineers are very important.

Communication Systems Project Engineer

This position involves both hands-on systems design as well as leading teams of Systems, Software and Hardware Engineers on several programs. Successful management of customer relations, program specifications, schedules, budgets and design requirements will be required.

The ideal candidate has a solid background in the fundamentals of detection theory, modulation, random processes, and iterative signal processing with experience in making design and implementation tradeoffs in large, complex systems.

5+ years experience in waveform-level design, development and test of communication systems using analysis and simulation. Expertise in defining and refining system requirements, interfaces and test planning is essential. At least 5 years experience in hardware prototyping efforts is desirable, including digital design, DSP, laboratory integration, and/or system support for such efforts.

Systems Engineer, Networks

The Systems Engineer (Networks), reporting to the Network Architect, will assist in the development, specification, and implementation of core wireless networking protocols for TrellisWare’s software defined wireless solutions. Additionally, this position will support TrellisWare’s ongoing ad hoc networking research and development efforts (e.g., next-generation protocol design and simulation).

Requirements:

  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residency per federal security regulations.
  • MS or PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering (with an emphasis on networking) and 2-5 years experience required.
  • Previous experience with formal network protocol specification required.
  • Working knowledge of "standard" ad hoc networking protocols at Layers 2 and above required, extensive knowledge preferred.
  • Working knowledge of wireless communications systems (i.e., Layer 1) required.
  • Must be fluent in the C and C++ programming languages.
  • Experience with ad hoc networking simulators (e.g., NS-2, QualNet) a plus.

Systems Engineer

This position is for a Systems Engineer who will lead in the definition, development, upgrade and update of software defined radio (SDR) and MANET communication systems products. The successful applicant will work in a multifunctional team comprised of systems, software, hardware, and FPGA development engineers, as well as other technical, support, and program groups.

The successful applicant will be responsible for performing various tasks associated with the systems engineering discipline at both the SDR Receiver-Transmitter equipment level as well as ancillary accessory equipment. Tasks will include:

  • Soliciting, understanding, clarifying, and analyzing customer needs, including responses to customer requests for proposals.
  • Translation of customer needs into system level requirements and capability to track all levels of requirements throughout the development.
  • Contributing to the development of system architectures by decomposing system requirements, identifying functional building blocks based on decomposed requirements, and allocating system requirements to software, hardware, and FPGA elements.
  • Defining interfaces between the system elements.
  • Integrating and testing system elements.
  • Establishing system and subsystem test procedures for hardware, software and waveform elements.
  • Verifying that the end-product complies with system requirements through both simulation and testing at the system and subsystem levels.
  • Preparation of specifications, plans, procedures and reports dictated by internal and contractual processes.

Requirements:

  • MSEE and 6-10 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding of communication system theory and radio architectures is required.
  • Familiarity with V/UHF military waveforms/communication protocol/wireless networking and operational concepts.
  • Familiarity with trade study methodologies and past working experience in software, hardware, and/or ASIC/FPGA areas are considered strengths for making architectural decisions.
  • Experience/familiarity with systems modeling skills/tools (such as Matlab/Simulink, OPNET) is desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills, the ability to work with a diverse group of team members and to work flexible hours.
  • Experience with formal sell off tests with customers and quality engineering.
  • Ability to independently coordinate, plan, and execute duties.
  • Ability to interact with senior managers and government staff with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in establishing and implementing metrics for task execution, schedule progress, and process effectiveness.
  • Strong experience in: Communication, network, wireless, risk management, IP, Mobile or Ad-Hoc or MANET, Information Assurance, radio, routing, QoS, and security architecture.
  • Strong coordination, organization, teaming and communication abilities along with horizontal integration skills.
  • An understanding of requirements development and flow down techniques.
  • Experience with integration and debug of RF, digital and I/O hardware.
  • Experience with military tactical radio systems and commercial OFDM systems are considered a strong plus.
  • Experience with waveform integration onto SDR hardware is a must; waveform design experience is highly desirable.
