Custom Designed Receiver Products

TrellisWare custom designs and optimizes receivers to meet unique customer needs – whether accommodating pre-designed RF front ends, squeezing key processing into a smaller FPGA or specific DSP, or partitioning a design across an existing platform. Receiver enhancements encompass the entire receive processing for a waveform, but may also include custom modems, equalizers, interference cancellation circuitry, unique acquisition algorithms, and other portions of the receive processing.

Commercial Receivers

TrellisWare provides receive processing solutions for commercial microwave and the emerging E-band markets that operate at 100’s of Mbps to multiple Gbps. Unlike competing systems that employ limited if any error correction coding, TrellisWare solutions provide full turbo-like code performance using its F-LDPC at these speeds! This coding can enable many diverse custom solutions such as multi-carrier design and/or very high order QAM signaling. In addition they are specifically designed so that the bill of materials, and therefore cost, can be scaled proportional to the data rate.

Military Receivers

TrellisWare also provides solutions for enhancing the throughput of numerous government radios, such as MIDS and EPLRS, via FPGA cores, ASICs and/or software. The plot to the right shows how we can dramatically increase the data rate on Link-16/MIDS without a giving up proportional loss in Anti-Jam capability. This was accomplished entirely at baseband without changing the spectral content, bandwidth or frequency of the waveform. Similarly, the TrellisWare technology has been applied to providing LPI designs for covert communications and networking in extremely demanding RF environments such as inside mines, ships, narrow canyons or high-rise urban applications.

Simulation to Field Testing

TrellisWare validates its custom receiver solutions not only by paper analysis and through Matlab simulations, but also in the field. Once the preliminary analysis/simulation is complete, the designs are implemented at full speed and functionality in real-time hardware on our portable SDR test platforms. High quality commercial RF simulators are used in the lab to verify performance and robustness over a wide range of repeatable test environments and then the designs are often taken into the real-world for further validation.

TrellisWare has taken field tested units into storm drains, mines, and buildings; at vehicular speeds in numerous urban centers; throughout an aircraft carrier; across the water at more than 100 mph; to military test facilities; from mountain tops; and in many other challenging scenarios. Testing receiver products with our portable SDR platforms gives TrellisWare the unique capability of proving the operational capability of our custom receiver designs even before we deliver them to customers for integration into their platforms and systems.

For applications requiring several Gbps, TrellisWare has developed a channelization design that uses very low cost ADC and FPGA resources coupled to an F-LDPC ASIC to significantly reduce bill of material (BOM) costs. For microwave and E-band applications, this design provides significantly better (>4 dB) performance over existing receivers and can be modularly scaled with data rate.
